After a last-minute change to its release plan, Sand: Raiders of Sophie launched into early access following a prominent showing at Summer Game Fest. Collaborating studios Hologryph and TowerHaus shifted away from a planned 1.0 release that had been due on June 22.

Alex Nichiporchik wrote on Twitter that the game grossed $1 million in its first 12 hours but that the launch was hit by "massive DDOS attacks," which left Steam reviews hovering around 60% positive. He added, "can't lose if you never give up" and, "sleep is overrated."

The game is set on a desert planet and involves using a walking base to explore and fight others for precious supplies — described as "Think Cowboy Bebop meets Howl's Moving Castle." Developers continue to address stability problems while the review situation has yet to improve and the to-do list remains long and growing.
