SSD prices have climbed as the memory supply crisis continues, making last year’s sensible deals seem distant. Paying more than $200 feels like a lot now, but a speedy 1 TB Samsung 9100 Pro is currently available for $207 at Amazon.

The 9100 Pro advertises sustained read/write speeds of up to 14,700 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s. Its performance is driven by dedicated LPDDR4X cache plus a 365 GB pseudo‑SLC cache, which Zak says helps the drive "absolutely [rips] across sequential performance."

Random 4K performance is a weaker point. The 2 TB unit landed at 88 MB/s on the read and 237 MB/s on the write, figures that make it better suited to supplementing existing storage rather than outright replacing a main internal SSD.

Thermal efficiency is a highlight, though the included heatsink is, in Zak’s words, "a bit naff." The recommendation is to skip the heatsinked variant and instead use a solid, dependable motherboard heatsink for best results.
