Since its 1993 premiere, The X-Files has been a touchstone for tightly wound procedurals, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s Mulder and Scully anchoring a franchise that spawned two feature films and multiple revivals. Rather than bringing the original leads back, the new reboot headed by Oscar winner and Sinners director Ryan Coogler is flipping the script.

Deadline reported that Coogler’s take received a pilot green light at Hulu and is currently filming in Vancouver. The project casts Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler as the new lead FBI agents, signaling a clear break from past iterations. Starting with new characters and a different creative team could give the series what previous revivals could not: a genuine fresh start.

The show can retain its core skeptic‑and‑believer engine while rebuilding trust with longtime viewers and courting new ones.
