RPG Maker users could lose years of important history as official forums shut down
For decades, RPG Maker has been essential software for many game developers, spawning fan-favorites such as Omori, Lisa, Yume Nikki, Fear and Hunger and Corpse Party. Earlier this week Gotcha Gotcha Games announced it will shut down the existing official forums and replace them with the newer RPG Maker Guild.
The current forums will be deleted wholesale, including their archives. Gotcha Gotcha Games has disabled new account registrations, and posting and other features will be turned off on June 18 as the site becomes read-only; the old forum and all its archives will be deleted on Dec.
11. Developers reacted angrily, filling the announcement with incredulous comments and pleas to reconsider. The forums host tutorials, plug-ins and troubleshooting discussions that many creators rely on, and their removal will leave numerous searches leading to dead ends and many plug-in download pages likely to vanish.
