Romano denies Florian Wirtz move to reunite with Xabi Alonso at Chelsea
Speculation has intensified that Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz could reunite with former mentor Xabi Alonso at Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano moved to clarify the situation on his YouTube channel, saying the pair retain a strong bond from their time together at Bayer Leverkusen but that no formal negotiations have taken place between the clubs.
Romano was unequivocal: "No, Florian Wirtz is not leaving Liverpool this summer." He added that Chelsea are not looking for that kind of player and insisted Wirtz remains an important part of Liverpool’s squad, with the club believing next season could be his season in red, so there are absolutely no movements around him.
Wirtz endured a difficult debut campaign on Merseyside after his record move, registering seven goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances while struggling at times with the Premier League’s physical demands and drawing criticism after some high-profile matches.
