Robert Downey Jr. Calls Avengers: Doomsday 'The Antidote' the MCU Needs

Marvel Studios will close 2026 with its fifth Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, bringing Robert Downey Jr. back in a new role as Doctor Doom under the direction of Joe and Anthony Russo. The movie assembles dozens of MCU veterans and legacy Marvel stars, and for the first time the Avengers, X‑Men and Fantastic Four will unite on screen.

Doomsday is set to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Speaking with CBR, Downey said the film and next year's Avengers: Secret Wars aim to avoid being "a letdown" after Infinity War and Endgame. He teased that Doomsday contains "something... that is literally the only antidote" to that problem, adding, "And it's not even about how I executed it.
