Rio Ferdinand says Harry Kane is England's only 'genuinely world-class' player
Rio Ferdinand told viewers on his YouTube channel that, despite a squad full of Premier League winners and Champions League finalists, England currently have just one "genuinely world-class player" — captain Harry Kane. "There’s others teetering around it but he’s the absolutely world-class player in the squad," the former England defender said.
England opened their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia, Kane scoring a first-half brace to level Gary Lineker as the nation’s leading goalscorer in World Cup finals. Marin Baturina and Petar Musa kept Croatia in the hunt at half-time, but second-half strikes from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford secured the win and left England well placed ahead of group matches against Ghana and Panama.
Lineker praised Kane as the finest forward to wear the England shirt, while Alan Shearer noted his continued hunger for goals against the world’s best.
