Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars Arrives as Spielberg Returns to Sci‑Fi
Steven Spielberg will return to the genre he began his career with when the alien sci‑fi movie Disclosure Day opens in June 2026, and he won’t be the only sci‑fi icon on screens this summer. After a string of historical epics, Ridley Scott comes back to sci‑fi on August 28, 2026, with The Dog Stars.
Based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, the film follows a civilian pilot in a post‑apocalyptic world devastated by a flu pandemic and stars Jacob Elordi alongside Josh Brolin. Scott’s latest Earth‑set, gritty adventure arrives after his most recent sci‑fi outing, Alien: Covenant (2017), and could play to his strengths as an action and adventure director.
The two directors have explored similar themes for nearly 50 years, and their careers are packed with widely recognized classics across many genres.
