Science fiction has found fresh momentum in recent years, and the Alien franchise has returned to prominence. Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus brought Ridley Scott’s original vision back to the screen, while Noah Hawley and Scott expanded the universe with the eight-episode series Alien: Earth.

Set two years before the 1979 original, Alien: Earth reveals that Earth’s corporations, including Weyland-Yutani, already knew about alien life. The series explains the corporate obsession with the xenomorph by linking it to a wider race for immortality—through cyborgs, synthetics, and hybrids that house human consciousness—and shows why the creature’s biology is so valuable.

Beyond the xenomorph, the show introduces other intelligent, deadly alien forms and preserves the body-horror and sci-fi aesthetics that define the franchise. By expanding character motivations and worldbuilding in an eight-episode format, Alien: Earth functions as a soft reboot that opens multiple avenues for a second season.
