Reylo fan fiction turned rom-com arrives on Prime Video
Ali Hazelwood's The Love Hypothesis began as a Star Wars fan fiction titled "Head over Feet" on Archive of Our Own, written under the pen name Ever-so-Reylo and reimagining Rey and Kylo Ren in a modern setting. Hazelwood reworked that material into an original rom-com.
The Love Hypothesis follows Olive Smith — originally Rey — a PhD candidate who, after an impulsive kiss with Professor Adam Carlsen — originally Kylo Ren/Ben Solo — finds herself involved in a fake-dating plot. In the film, Lili Reinhart plays Olive and Tom Bateman plays Adam; the story is a STEM-based rom-com.
The book's origins included characters modelled on Finn, Poe, Dr. Phasma and Professor Solo, so many changes were required to move away from that universe. Hazelwood has said her agent encouraged her to pull some of her fan fics and rework them. The Love Hypothesis will premiere on Prime Video this September 23.
