Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth moved the remake series into open world territory, but its world remained several interconnected maps rather than a single seamless expanse. Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the upcoming third entry, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, will let players explore the entire map right away and that the map is even bigger than all of Rebirth's distinct maps put together.

Speaking at Summer Game Fest 2026, Hamaguchi outlined how Revelation expands exploration: players can take to the skies in the Highwind airship, fly around the open world and parachute down anywhere, without progression gates or loading screens. He said the map's horizontal width is far bigger than Rebirth, and its vertical depth increases because players can now control the skies.

Hamaguchi confirmed that all areas from Rebirth will appear in Revelation "in the same scope, if not bigger," but he added they will not all be exactly the same.
