Resident Evil Veronica remake will be treated like a mainline entry
Capcom’s Summer Game Fest 2026 reveal confirmed a remake of the Dreamcast-era Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the series’ first fully 3D entry that continues the stories of Claire and Chris Redfield. Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said Veronica is being treated with the reverence of a numbered Resident Evil game and will further modernize the original, similar to the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
Although the reveal trailer showed first-person sequences, Hirabayashi said, “It’s a third-person game,” and offered no hint that an optional first-person camera will be available—those moments may be limited sequences like the opening of the Resident Evil 3 remake.
Claire will have changed since the Resident Evil 2 remake: Veronica takes place three months after the Raccoon City incident, and Hirabayashi said she has “some training from her brother Chris” but won’t suddenly become a government agent or a superhero. Capcom appears likely to tone down the John Woo–style action from the original opening.
