Resident Evil Requiem Is One of the Best Games in the Franchise
Halfway through 2026, the year has already produced standout games such as 007: First Light and Pokémon Pokopia, but the spotlight has fallen on Resident Evil as it marks its 30th anniversary. The ninth mainline entry, Resident Evil: Requiem, has sold over 7 million copies and is being discussed as both a Game of the Year contender and a candidate for the best Resident Evil title of all time.
An upcoming film directed by Zach Cregger adds to what is shaping up to be the franchise's biggest anniversary yet. Requiem introduces a new protagonist, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft (Angela Sant'Albano), who is investigating a string of gruesome deaths and returns to the abandoned Wrenwood Hotel, the site where her mother was killed eight years earlier.
Players also take control of Leon S. Kennedy (Nick Apostolides), now a special operative sent to find a missing police officer. Their separate investigations converge as they uncover connections to the original Raccoon City incident and confront personal traumas.
