Report: Baldur's Gate 2 Remake Reportedly in Development
Larian Studios has moved on from the franchise after Baldur's Gate 3, but Wizards of the Coast continues to expand the setting. HBO is developing a live-action television adaptation continuing the story of Baldur's Gate 3, and Penguin Random House has begun a new line of books that includes an upcoming tale focused on Astarion.
Taken together, those moves suggest Wizards sees Baldur's Gate as more than a single video game series. A report claims a remake of Baldur's Gate 2 is in development and that former BioWare developer Kevin Martens has returned to work on the project. Martens previously served as a co-lead designer on Baldur's Gate 2 and later worked on Jade Empire, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect and Diablo 3.
The report also suggests both of BioWare's original Baldur's Gate games may receive remake treatments, which would make sense because the sequel directly continues the original's story. The project has not been officially announced; Hasbro declined to comment and Martens did not respond before publication.
