Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi wants to make another JRPG

Naoki Hamaguchi, who has directed the entire Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, says his next project will more than likely be another JRPG. The Remake series finally comes to a close with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is due next year. He has toyed with the idea of DLC, but acknowledges he will eventually move on from Cloud and Tifa.

"In terms of what I personally want to do, obviously, I think my next creative work is also going to be a JRPG," he told Game Informer, adding that Square Enix is capable of delivering grand-scale RPGs that resonate worldwide. Square Enix built its foundations on massive RPGs and JRPGs, and recent reveals from FF7 Revelation to Kingdom Hearts 4 and Dragon Quest 12 underscore that focus.

For Hamaguchi, staying in a genre he already knows well makes sense.
