Real Madrid appear poised to sign Ibrahima Konaté, with the move reportedly set to go ahead if Florentino Pérez is re-elected as club president. The centre-back would sign a four-year deal with an optional fifth year, according to AS. Konaté left Liverpool this week and posted on Instagram: "I am deeply saddened that I didn't have the chance to say goodbye to you all at the last match," adding he did not know it would be his last time wearing the shirt.

His words suggest he was taken aback by the collapse of contract talks. As recently as April, Konaté and Liverpool had seemed close to a renewal; after the Merseyside derby he said they were "close to an agreement," and L'Equipe reported only minor details remained.

Other clubs linked with him include Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Ittihad. Konaté joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for around €40 million and helped the club win the Premier League. He made 51 appearances in the 2025/26 season, scoring two goals, with no assists and 4,280 minutes played.
