Real Madrid say €150m bid for Julián Álvarez was rejected
Real Madrid published an official statement confirming their club-record offer of €150 million for Julián Álvarez was turned down by Club Atlético de Madrid, finally revealing the identity of the “mystery Galáctico” promised by president Florentino Pérez. The club said it had made an offer of 150 million euros for the federative rights of the player, but Atlético expressed gratitude and rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.
The announcement follows Pérez’s re‑election as club president and his campaign pledge to sign one major target. He had indicated the signing would be a midfielder who can drive forward, that it would be the largest fee Real Madrid has ever paid and that the player was not Erling Haaland nor from the Premier League.
Complications remain over the player’s contract: it was initially thought Álvarez had a €500m release clause, but his deal reportedly contains provisions for certain Champions League sides that could allow a move for closer to €150m.
