Readers suggested a range of walks across Europe, from cliff-top trails above the Amalfi coast to mountain lakes in the Tatras and remote high-mountain routes in Georgia. Each route blends dramatic scenery with local character, whether that is hamlets, huts or a welcoming village stop.

Above the Amalfi coast the Sentiero degli Dei — the “walk with the gods” — is cut into the vertiginous hillside and offers views to Capri before dropping down to the crowded but beautiful Positano; a combined bus and ferry ticket from Travelmar links coastal towns to the start in Bomerano, in Agerola.

In Poland the Five Lakes hike in the Tatras begins at Palenica Białczańska and climbs beside a tumbling stream to an amphitheatre of lakes; stop at Dolinie Pięciu Stawów hut for żurek and, further on, Morskie Oko appears, ringed by sheer mountain walls and a lakeside hut where a Żywiec lager awaits.
