RB Leipzig have sacked head coach Ole Werner after one season at the Red Bull Arena, it was confirmed on Wednesday. The 38-year-old leaves despite securing Champions League qualification, and assistant coaches Patrick Kohlmann and Tom Cichon were also dismissed.

Managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer said the club had analysed the past season and reached the conclusion that a new head coach was needed, thanking Ole, Tom and Patrick for their work while stressing that further development and a changed approach are necessary.

The decision is part of a wider shake-up as Jurgen Klopp, who now oversees footballing operations across the Red Bull network, seeks a clearer tactical identity ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Leipzig have moved quickly to secure a successor, triggering a release clause to bring Martin Demichelis from RCD Mallorca after their relegation from La Liga.
