Rayman 1 remake 'near a mission impossible', producer says
Loic Gounon, brand producer for Rayman Legends Retold, explained why Ubisoft is remaking Legends rather than the original Rayman.
He described Legends as the richest entry in the series and said it contains what he called "all of Rayman," including Globox, the Teensies, Murfy and Barbara. Gounon argued that moving on to a later game would require having those elements in place.
Gounon also said Rayman 1 has been attempted before and is very difficult to remake, noting that Rayman Origins already serves as a kind of reboot. The original's "super slow" pace and "very old school game design" mean that altering its metrics and sense of speed would turn it into a different game, making a remake, in his words, "near a mission impossible."
For the franchise's 30th anniversary, the team kept Rayman 1 largely intact and opted for a documentary-style approach. That decision does not rule out potential remakes for Rayman 2 or 3 in the future.
