Ravenloft: The Horrors Within — a worthy companion to Van Richten’s Guide

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within arrives as the main release of Dungeons & Dragons’ Season of Horror and the first major tabletop book from Wizards of the Coast in 2026. It updates Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft for the 5.5e rules and design approach, reusing a good deal of material while adding new domains, darklords and system changes.

The book is packed with options: 16 Domains of Dread, 17 darklords, seven subclasses, four species, four backgrounds, 11 feats, 68 monsters and 47 maps, with the Ultimate Bundle including a DM screen, tarokka deck and map pack. Player choices include a new lupin species and alternate-origin Dark Gifts; Haunted Bastions expand the bastion rules from the Dungeon Master’s Guide.

Several design additions reshape the setting. The tarokka deck now ties directly to Domains, with aligned and opposing cards that can guide travel or alert a darklord. Some Domains from the earlier guide are moved to an "other Domains" list, while full new entries include Innsmouth, the Shadowlands and Sithicus.
