Austria boss Ralf Rangnick hailed Lamine Yamal as one of football’s brightest young talents after Spain’s 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia. The Barcelona winger opened the scoring in the 10th minute and repeatedly troubled the Green Falcons down the flanks. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Rangnick suggested Yamal could reach a level comparable to Lionel Messi if he remains grounded and fit.

He said: 'I imagine that if he stays fit and keeps his feet on the ground, he could reach a level similar to that of Lionel Messi.' At 18, Yamal has already become a key figure in Spain’s attack and one of their most dangerous players. After an impressive first-half display, he was withdrawn in the second half to manage his workload following an injury at the end of last season; he also came on only in the second half of the 0-0 draw with Cape Verde.

Spain now turn their attention to Uruguay, with coach De la Fuente expected to continue managing Yamal’s minutes as the knockout stages approach.
