Quake Champions gets major update and free battle pass for Quake's 30th
Quake Champions, the free-to-play follow-up to Quake 3 Arena that launched on Steam in 2017, has received a substantial update to mark Quake’s 30th anniversary. A free season 30 battle pass is available to all players and includes cosmetics from 1996 and past QuakeCons, previously exclusive skins, the new Disintegrator rocket launcher and Goroth's Earth Magic podium.
The patch goes beyond cosmetics. Developers overhauled the network code to reduce packet loss, improve projectile prediction and make lag compensation vary by ping; hit validation for high-ping players has been fixed and the 160 ms ping limit for connecting has been removed.
The update also adds a Random Champion Select that can pick locked champions in Practice, Quick Play and Ranked, plus universal weapon shaders, character and map tweaks, and broad optimizations.
