Prime Video's Ghost in the Shell reboot officially releases in 3 weeks

Science Saru’s adaptation of the full title The Ghost in the Shell will premiere July 7 on Prime Video. The studio’s take draws heavily from Masamune Shirow’s original manga, revisiting the lighter, often goofy tone that launched the franchise rather than the somber, philosophical mood of some earlier adaptations.

The series will tackle the Puppeteer storyline, with Section 9 hunting a mysterious super-hacker capable of ghost-hacking citizens. Expect a blend of high-stakes espionage and slapstick office comedy: intense firefights, office bickering over budgets, and the enthusiastic, tank-like Fuchikomas all feature in this version.

Science Saru remained in regular contact with Shirow during production. Series producer Koei Sakaita described a trusting relationship with the creator, and series director Mokochan said the staff poured their heart and soul into making a show as many people as possible can enjoy.
