Prime Video’s Bang: a B-tier action throwback that found an audience
Prime Video’s unapologetic B-tier action thriller Bang plays like a throwback to old-school shoot 'em ups. Jack Kesy stars as William Bang, a hardened elite hitman who begins to question his path after a near-death experience, and Wych Kaosayanda directs with a mix of gritty anti-hero storytelling and playful predictability.
The film’s inciting incident is deliberately over-the-top: Bang is gunned down, shot seven times in the chest, and survives thanks to an emergency heart transplant. His new heart comes from an expectant father who died rushing his wife to the hospital, and the donor’s widow tells Bang, "You got the best part of him." Reeling from the experience, Bang tries to leave his life of danger behind.
Peter Weller appears as kingpin Morgan Cutter, a flamboyant villain who insists his hitmen wear body cams so he can voyeuristically watch their kills.
