Prime Video has shelved the Stargate reboot developed by franchise veteran Martin Gero; the project is no longer moving forward. The streamer concluded Gero's vision would mainly appeal to longtime fans and would not generate excitement among newcomers. Gero previously worked on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, and across multiple live-action series the franchise ran for 17 seasons and retains a large fandom.

Stargate's mythology centers on gates that create wormholes to other worlds, with Earthbound researchers attempting to use them to acquire technology and resources. One of the hopes for the Prime Video take was that a bigger budget could finally capture the premise's scale in a new way.

Prime Video secured the rights to Stargate as part of the deal to acquire MGM Studios and is exploring other ways to tell stories in the world.
