Amazon MGM Studios is developing a television reboot of Robocop. The project, first announced in 2023, named Peter Ocko as writer and showrunner and originally attached James Wan as an executive producer; after an extended silence, World of Reel provided an update that Wan will direct key episodes.

The series is preparing for a six-month shoot next January in Vancouver and will center on a character called Marc Kyle rather than Alex Murphy. Rather than being the victim of gang violence, Kyle will apparently die in a war before being transformed into a cybernetic officer.

Once Kyle becomes a cyborg, he will be mentored by Alex Murphy, though the report does not confirm whether Peter Weller will reprise the role. Shifting the origin to a war setting suggests Amazon MGM is aiming to modernize the character's mythology. Paul Verhoeven's original film was rebooted in 2014 with Joel Kinnaman as Murphy and José Padilha directing; that version tried to preserve the satirical tone of the original but received mixed reviews.
