Prime Video orders live-action 'Jem and the Holograms' from Nolan and Joy
Amazon MGM Studios has set a live-action adaptation of the 1980s animated series Jem and the Holograms, developed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Kilter Films. Hasbro Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios are attached to the project, which has been described as "an elevated live-action take on the beloved 1980s animated series." Jem ran from 1985 to 1988 and follows record company owner Jerrica Benton and her singer alter ego, Jem, who fronts the band Jem and the Holograms.
Designed to capitalize on the rise of music videos and MTV, the series was produced by Hasbro, Sunbow and Marvel Productions and became one of the most popular syndicated animated shows of the decade, at times outperforming Transformers and He-Man. Universal released a live-action Jem film in 2015, directed by Jon M.
Chu and starring Aubrey Peeples as an origin story for the series. The film opened on Oct.
