Prime Video Finds New Action Thriller Hit With 97-Minute 'Die Hard' Knockoff

Prime Video has landed a new action thriller, Cleaner, led by Daisy Ridley and directed by Martin Campbell. The film draws on Die Hard for inspiration, placing a lone, outgunned hero in a high-rise standoff. Set in present-day London, Cleaner begins when a group of extremists seizes an energy company’s annual gala and takes 300 hostages.

Ridley plays Joanna “Joey” Locke, a dishonorably discharged ex-soldier working as a window cleaner who must survive while suspended 50 stories up and fight to save those trapped inside, including her younger brother. Cleaner has climbed into Prime Video’s top 10 alongside Bride Hard, Crime 101, and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War.

The film runs 97 minutes and was released February 21, 2025. Critical response was divisive: Rotten Tomatoes lists 52% from critics and 66% from audiences.
