Prime Video cancels Stargate series over fan-focused approach
Prime Video has scrapped the Stargate series that Martin Gero announced last November. Gero had said he would not be rebooting the franchise but instead would draw on decades of canon from three live-action shows and three films, and he promoted the project in a video alongside the leaders of two fansites.
Amazon’s executives decided the show would likely not appeal beyond the franchise’s dedicated fanbase. Gero, who previously worked on Stargate: SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate Universe, will develop other projects for Amazon while the studio explores different ways to bring Stargate back.
The article suggests Amazon may prefer a fresh reboot over the legacy-sequel approach Gero had planned. No plot details were revealed for the canceled series.
