Prime Video's sci-fi military thriller Battleship is worth a weekend watch
Prime Video recently returned to the world of one of its early hits with Jack Ryan: Ghost War, which sees John Kraskinski reprising the role and packs enough action and bloodshed to rival Reacher. The service’s streaming charts currently feature another military-themed entry with a science fiction bend: Battleship, which sits at #6 on Prime Video’s U.S.
charts, FlixPatrol shows. Battleship’s strange update to the board game is largely responsible for its mixed reception. Director Peter Berg and writers Jon and Erich Hoeber pivot from two opposing naval forces to a clash between Taylor Kitsch’s Alex Hopper and alien invaders, complete with bombs resembling the game’s pegs and a radar sequence used to target the enemy.
Berg himself acknowledged at a WonderCon panel that the film bears little direct resemblance to the game, though he pointed out a few playful references like ordinance that looks like pegs and radar systems that struggle to find each other.
