Prime Day has solid thermal paste deals — I keep a tube in my backpack
Prime Day has some good deals on thermal paste, and I always keep a tube in my backpack. Thermal paste is one of those small purchases you don’t notice until you run out, yet it can make or break a build.
Many coolers come with paste pre-attached or included, but often it’s low quality or there isn’t much of it. If you reposition a CPU block during installation or troubleshooting, the paste can smudge and leave uneven coverage, producing a toasty chip.
Cheap paste can also dry out and crack over time, which often shows up first as falling clock speeds and then rising temperatures — a quick check with Hardware Monitor or HWInfo64 will flag it. If left unattended, the paste turning to dust can lead to severe damage to a CPU or even a GPU.
When applying paste, use a non-conductive formula and be generous: identify the die and aim for broad coverage rather than a tiny dot. Excess can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol spray and a microfiber cloth, and do not eat thermal paste.
