Warner Bros. announced at the Annecy Film Festival that it is developing a new animated Powerpuff Girls movie. It is unclear whether the film is connected to the upcoming second reboot of the series, overseen by original creator Craig McCracken, which was announced in 2022 and put into development in 2024.

Variety notes that while a new Powerpuff Girls film is in the works, theres no deal in place. The characters first debuted in 1998 on Cartoon Network and have since seen multiple revivals: a 2016 animated reboot that ran for three seasons and a 2020 live-action pilot that was filmed and later scrapped at The CW.

That live-action project was announced to be written by Diablo Cody and was set to star Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup; the pilot was filmed in 2021, The CW passed on it in May 2021 intending to rework it, and the reboot was canceled by 2023 after Nexstar Media Groups acquisition of The CW.
