Power Rangers Icon's $300 Action Thriller Spades Hits Streaming
Made for a shoestring budget of just $300, Spades is an original indie action thriller now streaming on Prime Video. Johnny Yong Bosch — best known as the second Black Power Ranger, Adam Park — wrote, directed, and stars in the film, which was filmed on an iPhone and used a crowdfunding campaign to raise around $30,000 for post-production.
Bosch reunites with fellow Power Rangers star Jason Narvy, who leads as Detective James Bishop, a veteran haunted by combat trauma. Bishop's daughter disappears, drawing him into an underworld tied to a series of brutal vigilante murders marked by skull-branded spades playing cards, and forcing a confrontation where justice and vengeance collide.
The pair have worked together on Ark Exitus and Extreme Heist, and Spades has already collected festival honors, winning Best Indie Feature at the Los Angeles Film Awards and Best Action Film at both the New York International Film Awards and the Hollywood International Indie Film & Screenplay Awards.
