Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders opened last week, and while some players balked at the price, a smaller group managed to pre-order without paying extra. Those players had spent months, even years, accumulating Microsoft points by searching on Bing and using other Rewards activities.

One user, HugoWheynow, posted: "I pre-ordered [GTA 6] using 98,000 Microsoft points. Thank you Rockstar for all the delays, which allowed me to have all these extra months to save my Microsoft points." Others showed their Microsoft account balances being deducted after redeeming points for the pre-order.

Bing’s reward scheme can yield a meaningful number of points: searching alone can get around 5,000 points every month, and it’s possible to earn up to 10,000 points (roughly $10) a month by adding the Bing app, playing games on Xbox Game Pass, completing ‘More Activities’ and referring friends.
