Pixel Watch 5 reportedly found underwater near St. Martin
The accidental unveiling of what appears to be Google's next smartwatch has an unusual backstory: scuba diving near the island of St. Martin and a post by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. Pitchford wrote on X that "a friend of mine found this watch a few days ago ~underwater~ when he was scuba diving near the island of St.
Martin," noting the reverse indicates it is a Google Pixel Watch 5, which has not yet been released. He shared images of the watch's front and underside and said it "seems to be fine" apart from an empty battery. Pitchford added he posted the information because his friend "seems to believe I am connected in the tech industry," and later said he is "now in touch with the owner" and has "arranged for its return," urging anyone who finds something that isn't theirs to "pay it forward and try to return it to its rightful owner." Finding an unannounced smartwatch in the ocean off a Caribbean island is an unlikely event, and some have accused Pitchford of fabricating the story.
