Naomi Campbell called unfit to run a charity in appeal
A tribunal heard the Charity Commission say Naomi Campbell was unfit to run a charity after she "completely abdicated" her responsibilities as a trustee of Fashion for Relief. The commission described her as "highly culpable" for mismanagement and misuse of funds; Campbell is appealing a five-year ban on running a charity.
The commission highlighted that Campbell delegated oversight to a fellow trustee, failed to engage when problems emerged and showed an "absence of the competence that could be expected" of a trustee. Fashion for Relief was wound up in March 2024 after managers sent in by the commission found it was insolvent, and an inquiry later reported shambolic financial management and chaotic record-keeping.
The inquiry said the charity raised £4.8m over five years but partner charities received just 10% of the proceeds, and it recorded charges for luxury hotel rooms, flights, spa treatments and cigarettes.
