Nintendo's "variable pricing" era has produced another surprise: the physical edition of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on Switch 2 is listed at $80. That price matches Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 edition of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game, due September 17, 2026, is now visible on the eShop with that unexpected cost.

The eShop shows the digital version at $70, reflecting Nintendo's recent move to make digital copies $10 cheaper than boxed editions. The company presented that change as a saving for people who download games rather than buy physical copies. Still, it’s hard to see $80 as a "natural" price for Fortune’s Weave instead of a figure that factors in extra costs such as storage on SD Express cards in the current AI-fueled RAM apocalypse.

Most other Nintendo releases announced or launched since the digital discount was introduced have been priced at $70 or less. Star Fox is $60 physically and $50 digitally, while Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is $70 physical and $60 digital.
