Phone battery draining fast? Malware is one of several possible causes
If your smartphone is losing charge much faster than before, there are many possible causes. Batteries degrade with time, settings like screen brightness and always-on displays can consume extra power, apps running in the background may be syncing constantly, and exposure to extreme heat or cold can reduce battery performance.
Review which apps use the most power by checking the battery section in Settings. Look for unfamiliar or rarely used apps, and check app permissions: programs allowed to run in the background, access location, or constantly sync are common battery drains. Also consider charging habits and wireless chargers, which can generate heat and impact battery life.
Malware can be another culprit. Malicious apps often run quietly and may drain power while stealing data, recording audio or video, or performing other hidden tasks. Such apps can arrive via phishing, sideloaded downloads, or—rarely—even through official app stores.
