September 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most crowded months for games, with many aiming for the weeks before Grand Theft Auto 6 dominates attention. Delays to avoid that window seem likely, yet during last week’s Sony State of Play one title moved closer to the epicenter: Phantom Blade: Zero.

Game director Qiwei "Soulframe" Liang said the team did not factor GTA 6 into its timing. "We don't think about any of this. We only think of the quality of the product itself. I don't think competition can influence, much, the success of a work. Only the product itself matters," he said, adding that "99% of the decision [was about] development." Phantom Blade: Zero's new date of October 29 sits three weeks before Rockstar's new open world game, a proximity that could still be risky as GTA's marketing campaign may dominate minds by early November.

"We don't think about what's happening there. We don't even think of the competition, what's launching ahead or after.
