Over 11 years of reviewing and building PCs, only a few cases have stuck in the mind as truly iconic. The Phanteks Evolv X2 is one of them — visually unlike anything the writer had built in before — and it is currently on offer at Newegg for $110 after rebate, about $70 off its original launch price and down from its usual $160 running price on Amazon.

There are clear trade-offs. Cable management is a serious challenge because of the wrapped glass and monolithic vertical chimney design, which leaves limited space at the rear. The case does include tie-down points, velcro straps and plenty of cut-outs, but to get the best result you realistically need to remove the storage caddy and use a fairly short, stumpy PSU; one velcro strap even broke during the initial review build.

Cooling follows the same pattern: intelligently designed but limited.
