Persona 4 Revival includes Persona 5's swap-out 'baton pass'
A brief moment in the Persona 4 Revival trailer reveals a familiar combat option: the words "baton pass" flash on-screen about one minute and twenty-five seconds in, suggesting a swap-out mechanic similar to Persona 5's. The trailer, shown during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, also leans heavily on Persona 5’s visual language while using Persona 4’s color palette.
That swap-out move lets players tag in different party members mid-battle, a feature many appreciated in Persona 5 for rescuing encounters gone wrong and for flexibility in tougher fights. In the trailer it appears the protagonist may be tagging Yosuke in to replace a downed Chie, mirroring how the mechanic has worked in previous entries.
How Atlus will unlock the ability in P4R remains unclear. In Persona 5 the feature was tied to the social-sim system through the Star Confidant Hifumi Togo; in Revival it could be assigned to one or more of the protagonist’s eight love interests, or introduced through multiple paths rather than copied exactly.
