Patrick Mahomes Signs Record Contract, Becomes Highest-Paid NFL Player
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs agreed to a two-year extension to his existing contract, keeping him in Kansas City through the 2033 season, when he will be 38.
Under the extension he is set to receive $504.75 million in guaranteed money over seven years; with incentives the payout could exceed $522 million, the first NFL deal valued above half a billion dollars.
The agreement averages about $64 million per year, making him the league's highest-paid player and surpassing the $60 million mark set by Dak Prescott. It reworks the decade-long 2020 deal and the 2022 renegotiation that already kept him in Kansas City.
The deal arrives after a difficult season: the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time in Mahomes' career, and a Week 15 ACL tear ended his season and led to surgery and rehab. The extension is a vote of confidence as he begins the road back this fall, aiming for another Super Bowl; he has spent his entire NFL career in Kansas City so far.
