Manchester United face a midfield rebuild after experienced Brazilian Casemiro left at the end of his contract, and several targets have emerged. England international Elliot Anderson has been on United’s radar following his rise at Nottingham Forest, but Forest are demanding a British-record £130m for the 23-year-old.

Gary Pallister said he is "a fan of Tonali" and believes Sandro Tonali "is more of a Manchester United player." He added that while Anderson’s all-action energy "would also fit into Manchester United," he thinks Tonali "maybe delivers a little bit more" on the ball and would "edge it for Manchester United," adding that Tonali would likely command a fee in the region of £100 million.

Supporters of Anderson argue his fee could be justified. Former Forest striker Marlon Harewood said Anderson "is definitely one of those players" and "is definitely worth the price tag." Tonali, who has proved himself in the Premier League since moving to Tyneside from AC Milan in 2023, drew praise from Giuseppe Rossi: "He deserves it.
