Funselektor’s new demo for Over the Hill swaps high-speed sliding for slow, thoughtful off-roading. It isn’t trying to be a wheel‑in‑your-hands simulator or a mud fidelity showcase; instead the game emphasizes the feel of being out there—taking your time, planning routes, and occasionally getting flipped if you decide to hammer the throttle.

The playable slice in this Steam Next Fest demo sits in a large chunk of Canadian wilderness and leans into an evocative, Firewatch-like visual style. Trails lead to points of interest with customization items and currency, cabins act as save points, challenge trails test precision, and scenic lookouts invite you to pause and use the photo mode.

You can follow the map or wander off-road to discover things the map won’t point out. Progress can be slow and punishing at first: early checkpoints are sparse, and vehicles—especially entry-level ones—have limited capabilities.
