After spending time in the noisy, content-heavy world of Forza Horizon 6, Over the Hill feels deliberately quiet. Built by Funselektor Labs with help from Strelka Games, the off-road exploration game pares things back into a minimalist, mindful drive: chunky little 4x4s roam a rugged wilderness, and the emphasis is on traversal rather than racing.

The demo drops you into Emerald Lake, a Canadian Alpine scene of fir forests, lakes and muddy trails rendered in warm autumnal colors with clean textures, low-poly models and hazy lighting. Vehicles are unlicensed, toy-like takes on late 20th century classics — the Protector, Roamer and Sentinel among them — and the world encourages slow, careful navigation through changing weather and time of day.

Objectives are simple: find everything on the map. Abandoned crates hide cosmetic parts — fenders, lights, roof racks loaded with camping gear or kayaks, spare wheels and shovels — while trail challenges, scenic viewpoints and item-recovery missions populate the landscape.
