OpenAI plans to roll out a revamped version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks — a 'super app' that will include coding tools and AI agents.

The company aims to compete more closely with Anthropic among business customers and move closer to profitability ahead of an IPO. That strategy involves turning ChatGPT into a gateway that nudges free users toward paid products such as coding product Codex. One senior OpenAI employee declared, 'Chat is dead.'

Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI’s core product and platform, said the company is working towards a product 'where you have your own personal agent that is capable of helping you … across everything in your life, be it personally or at work.'

The super app ambitions have surfaced repeatedly since last year. In March, The Wall Street Journal reported the plans mark a major strategy shift after OpenAI launched a range of standalone products in 2025, and executives now say they are abandoning 'side quests' like video generator Sora.
