A hands-on preview at Summer Game Fest revealed more of Onimusha: Way of the Sword beyond the demo already available on consoles and PC. The session covered areas not in the public demo, including a horror-filled open level and demonstrations of Miyamoto Musashi's combat at high skill.

In the chapter played, "Careful What You Wish For," Musashi arrives at a village cursed by a Genma named Rasho-gan. Villagers hallucinate relief from an infection called Malice, but in truth the demon has mutilated them: a bandaged woman has lost her eyes and an elderly man his lower leg.

Musashi and his ally Shizuka must recover three missing members of the Eight Stout Pillars to cleanse the town, culminating in a multi-stage boss fight in which Rasho-gan uses projectiles, extra limbs, and tries to seize Musashi's cursed gauntlet. Combat mixes swordplay, bow work and a variety of Oni Armaments.
