Olivier Giroud has agreed a one-year contract extension with Lille, ensuring he will continue playing top‑flight football into his 40s. He will lead the line next season under newly appointed manager Davide Ancelotti, son of Carlo Ancelotti. L'Équipe says the 39‑year‑old finalised talks with Lille's executive board to remain at the Stade Pierre‑Mauroy for another season, fulfilling his public aim of playing at the highest European level into his fourth decade.

Lille president Olivier Létang told RMC Sport that the veteran "still has that flame" burning inside him. The extension follows a busy campaign in which Giroud featured in 44 matches across all competitions, started half of Lille's Ligue 1 fixtures and scored 11 goals overall, including four in the club's Europa League run.

His final league goal came in a 4-0 win over Toulouse on April 12. Davide Ancelotti, 36, arrives after years as his father's primary assistant at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Everton.
