Javier Aguirre's 26-man roster for Mexico blends experience, recovery bets and youth, a list meant to start the home World Cup on June 11 with a mix of trusted veterans and players for the next cycle. Guillermo Ochoa will join an elite group by attending a sixth World Cup, while Aguirre acknowledged not every player arrives at the same physical moment but called this the best group he could find.

Among the winners is Santiago Gimenez, retained despite a season hindered by injuries and a long scoreless run, with Aguirre valuing his European pedigree and the options he adds to a forward line that also includes Raul Jimenez, Armando Gonzalez and Guillermo Martinez.

Luis Chavez also made the cut, offering left-footed control, set-piece threat and the kind of stability Aguirre wanted after the midfielder’s active showing against Australia. Not making the squad will sting for some. German Berterame, who scored seven goals and added three assists in 15 appearances for Inter Miami, was left out as Martinez took the final forward spot.
